Ratzlesnatch Co-op

Ratzlesnatch at 1709-1711 Channing Way is a large Victorian-esque multi-unit structure that was started as a collective in 1973 and legally established as a limited equity housing cooperative in 1977; each of the residents is a shareholder in the incorporated cooperative. It was among the first limited equity cooperatives on the west coast, and one of a handful of housing collectives in Berkeley from that period that has survived until this day.  In front of the building is the Dona Spring Wishing Well, one of the last remaining free distribution boxes in the City; the Wishing Well is maintained by residents of Ratzlesnatch and neighborhood volunteers.
